Lisa Heartman is a coffee-swilling, sass-spewing romance writer who believes love is messy and magnificent. She writes things she wishes she had said, and some she wishes she hadn’t, delighting readers with exhilarating stories and swoon-worthy characters in a world where danger and desire collide©.
Lisa is a marketer by day and a fiction writer by night. When she's not overseeing marketing programs and coordinating sales teams for a leading Phoenix-based business, she's spending lunch breaks, weekends, and sometimes holidays writing romantic suspense novels.
She attributes her love of reading to her mother reading to her as a young child, but words haven't always come easily to Lisa. As a child, dyslexia made reading and writing frustrating. After months of tutoring, she began reading on her own and quickly fell in love with the written word. She even asked for a typewriter for Christmas when she was in the third grade so she could type out her own stories. Reading and writing has helped Lisa to open her mind to creative possibilities and escape the sometimes hectic everyday life.
Lisa is involved in several writing groups with Romance Writers of America® (Valley of the Sun, Desert Rose, and Kiss of Death chapters). She is also part of two critique groups and a handful of social groups for writers across the country. Honing her craft is important to Lisa, and she takes several classes and attends seminars each year to build her skillset and keep up on the romance industry.
When asked about her favorite aspect of writing, Lisa is known to gush about her amusing heroes and heroines. She loves creating three-dimensional characters full of hopes and dreams and fears and flaws, then sending them off to learn a lesson or two about life and love.
In addition to writing, Lisa enjoys movies, music, reading, baking, traveling, anything dark chocolate or coffee related, and hobbies like jewelry making and sewing. One of her favorite things to do on vacation is to curl up poolside and get lost in a delicious romance novel (or six).
Lisa grew up in New Jersey where her older brother and parents currently reside. Being raised in a large Italian family full of strong role models gave Lisa the confidence to chase her dreams. After earning her BA in marketing from Virginia Wesleyan College she moved to Arizona to attain her MBA from University of Phoenix. She still lives in the valley with her husband and kitties.
